The hubbie and I have decided to sneak in a little vacation right before the summer's end and take the midget for a quick trip down to Virginia Beach. I hope to return on Monday mentally prepared for the autumn {am I the only one sad about the summer ending?}. Enjoy your weekend!!

Maybe I still have wedding on the brain, or maybe it's my thirst to work with metals . . . . Regardless of what the reason is I wouldn't mind having one of these items by
Michael Aram to decorate my dining table or china cabinet with . . . .

Now that the wedding is over and I can focus on
Aquarian Thoughts full-time, I am more than anxious to get our place together, especially my new work space. I happen to be a bit obsessive about my organization {I too color coordinate my books} and I would love to have my new closet space somehow resemble this {of course, from Domino Magazine}.
Because I'm sharing this space with the hubbie, I have to find a more realistic way to store my shoes. I'm thinking of using one of my old book shelves, pushing it into the corner of the closet {the closet spans an entire wall even bigger than in the above photo, thank goodnis} and using the shelves to display, er. . store, that is, . . . my shoes. Anything will be better than this . . . . .

Did anyone catch this sista over the weekend?
Jill Scott has such an amazing voice! I have been listening to her since her first album was leaked months before it's release and I can't wait to hear her
new music! If you missed the "mini-concert" you can catch it
here.
She is looking mighty fierce as of late. huh? . . . . .

For the late post today. The wedding was crazy, but even through all the ups and downs, it turned out to be one of the most
exhilarating parties I've ever thrown! In fact, the party lasted well into the weekend with a huge backyard fiesta on Saturday to wish the happy couple a joyful
bon voyage on their 2 week cruise and then a small cook out on Sunday with the last few family members that hadn't headed home yet. Needless to say I am exhausted and still cleaning and can't wait to throw another bash again {anyone need a planner?? ;) }. Unfortunately because of the crazy schedule I was unable to take pics of the wedding with my own camera, but I promise to post some as soon as I can. . . .

Ahhhh {I'm screaming with stress}, my mother's {grown and sexy} wedding is taking place tomorrow and I still have so much to do! There's the programs, the flowers, and the extra little finishing touches left to be completed. I know that I won't have time to post until after the wedding. . . . so. . . while I'm gone feel free to check out some goodnis I've recently stumbled upon . . . .
There is a very interesting post over at
Make Fetch Happen's and
StyleChile's blogs, that I would love to see discussed further. . . .
My
Wedding Inspiration Board for
Style Me Pretty's Weddng Inspiration Board contest was posted amongst some other really great inspiration boards.
And last but not least, some great eye-candy { since, I'm all into interior design right now} . . . . . from the
G Hotel . . . .
How great are both these rooms? If only I had the guts to use that blue and a few dozen less toodler fingerprints on my already dark furniture. . . . .
See you Monday!

As much as I love interiors {or anything for that matter} based upon the color blue, I've been eyeing all things gray. Most recently I have been obsessing over these rooms designed by
Fox Nahem Design which epitomize how graceful gray can look in a room.
So . . . being that me and the hubby have been disagreeing {as in at each other's throats} on what shade of
yellow to paint our walls, I picked up a bottle of
Behr's Metallic Silver and painted one entire wall to see if I could live with it. Surprisingly I like it more than I thought and can't wait to finish up the room so that I can see the entire design come together {and because living amongst the rubble of our renovation really takes a toll on my sanity}. . . . . .

A few weeks ago while J9 was here we did a little rummage shopping at an estate sale and managed to snag 3 of these chairs for a whooping {or is it whopping} $10!! I'm not sure what I'm going to do to trick them out, but ohh, do the possibilities excite me!!
I'm thinking that I can do something similar to the these chairs found over at
1st dibs and paint {or stain} the chairs a high gloss brown and replace the cover with a bright crisp white or neutral or paint them white and find a pretty velvety fabric in blue to match the blue on my walls. Of course I'm already leaning towards the blue . . .
The possibilites are endless {which can be a bad thing when your as indecisive as me}.

Ahhhhh. . . {I'm screaming with joy!}
You know how much I love African fabrics in fashion, but I rarely see them interpreted in modern clothing designs. . . that is until now. While catching up on some reading at Clothes-Pin {I really do love that site}, I read a post on
Sika Designs, a company that creates clothes inspired by Ghana, West Africa. Sigh. . . . It's like print heaven, only better . . . .

Now this is interesting!
Gary Harvey, creative genius and brand image creator behind Levi's debuted these gowns during London's Fashion Week. Newspapers, Logo t-shirts, army fatigues and {my favorite} denim have never been used so creatively, yet fashionably before.
How heavy does that denim gown have to be???

Here is the inspiration room for the midget's room {again from Domino Magazine}. In fact, it is the only inspiration room that is being followed at this point ;) We decided to use the orange paint that didn't work in the living room and reinterpret it into this . . . .
Cute, huh? To make the room a little less stark and a bit more toddler ready, I ran to Target and picked up this camouflage
tapestry, with an orange and wood grain print pillow case, and brown comforter set for about $40.
Can't beat that. Once we throw in all his toys and a few select pieces of his own artwork we'll be good to go.

There is something so timeless about wooden toys. Not only are they sturdy and able to stand the test of my toddler boy {unlike those amputated power rangers I bought last week}, they're just nice to look at.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jenifer Altman of
Athena Says has a new
shop and a new face. I've been reading her blog and watching it grow over the last 2 years and I'm never disappointed by her quality posts. Somehow this mother of three manages to run a great blog and create some really gorgeous paper goods and jewelry. So. . . it comes to no surprise that her home is just as gorgeous. Check out some pics of her home she so kindly posted on flickr. You've got to love the casual chic vibe of her home and her ability to mix some classic traditional pieces with the modern. Apparently I'm not the only one loving her vibe - her office space was featured on
Apartment Therapy last week! You can view more of her home
here.
Truly inspirational. . . .

I'm not big on paper goods because so many of them look alike. But these pretty notebooks by
Susy Jacks* somehow stand out in the crowd. What a great gift for writers or artists and they're pretty enough to leave out on your desk for jotting a quick note. . . .
Of course my favorite is the blue inspired by a chain-link fence. Check out her
blog for the latest news on her goods.

I have a serious love for indie magazines with great websites. Lately I've been checking out

On Monday I was very happy to have visited the ENK Accessorie Circuit Trade Show that featured accessories designers from around the country. It was so much fun to see and touch the jewerly I've been admiring and posting about for so long. While perusing the hundreds of booths exhibiting goods I spotted Moyna Bags, a NY based manufacturer of gorgeous, gorgeous hand and evening bags. I was amazed by the selection and range of colors offered and by the styles perfect for day or evening wear.
PS. Not in the NY area? They have a
website.

This past weekend has been one of the best weekends I've had in a very long time, particularly because my BFF of all time, J9, came in from California to visit. J9 is officially my favorite craft geek/artist/designer and it was such fun to put our heads together and enjoy a few DIYprojects. Here is a card she gave me for mother's day that had me thisclosetotears.
She will be soon revealing her own line of paper goods providing invitations, stationary, cards, etc. for all occasions and I can't wait to share them with you.

I decided to participate in the
Style Me Pretty wedding inspiration board contest. Of course I have several ideas of how I would like my wedding day to play out, but this particular board is based on one of my favorite colors - blue. Couldn't you imagine celebrating your special day dressed in this beautiful sari surrounded by luscious exotic plants while your guests fill their bellies with fresh sweet fruit? Moroccan lanterns and scented candles would add just the touch of romance as you take in all the precious moments that make up your wedding ceremony. . . .
Ahhh. . . A girl can dream . . . .
Labels: My Creative Forces, Wedding
I first spotted this idea in {the 1st issue?} of Blueprint Magazine knowing that I would try this project out for myself. I love unique ways of displaying plants so this really excited me.
And here is my version.
{The picture does the arrangement little justice.} I purchased the vase and plants from Wal-mart and then picked up the sand from A.C. Moore. In less than 20 minutes I had a designer succulent arrangement. Pretty neat huh? This will live on my kitchen windowsill {as soon as I get one. . . . . }

All this talk about weddings has got me interested in wedding decor and what would be better than decorations that also serve as beautiful gifts after the wedding is all said and done. I think these
Seda France Candles would do just the job. The beautiful packaging comes in a variety of colors to match any decor and the candles burn for up to 60 hours!

I still haven't found the perfect {or even decent at this point} dress to wear to my mother's wedding. I've tried them long and short, sleeveless, three-quatered sleeve, strapless, heart shaped, spaghetti, etc. etc. and nothing seemed to fit right. It could be that I can't get used to how I look with my new {okay, I know he's three already} mommy weight, or that I haven't considered other options - like wearing a sari. I've been fortunate to have owned a sari and know how effortlessy chic yet comfortable they are. So to continue with the idea of
coordinating my look with the rest of the bridal party I found myself a few options . . . . . .
Just beautiful don't you think?

A few days ago I was pleasantly surprised when I was complimented on my skin {must be the chocolaty tan} in Whole Foods the other day. I definitely am not the average beauty and let's face it, I've been wearing the same lipstick since the 9th grade {no not the same tube, at least I don't think so}. So I thought I might share a few of my must have "beauty" products that I use on a daily basis.
*
Raw African Shea Butter is used by all of my family members. It's great for extra dry skin, bruises and even cuts. I purchase mine downtown Newark at this tiny African shop where it's sold by the pound, but you can find it
here. It's pure, raw, and free of additives.
*Next is
Purpose Cleansing Soap which I have been using for the last 5 years. It creates such a smooth complexion when used twice a day {morning and evening} and is great for sensituve skin like mine.
*Of course
water is part of my daily beauty regime. I was told by a very smart and dear friend that you shoud drink half of your body weight in ounces per day. So if you weigh 130 lbs you should be consuming at least 65 ounces of water per day {about 4 water bottles}.
*Lastly, my must have,
Nature's Gate Carrot Smoothie Lip Balm. It comes in three different flavors, but carrot smoothie is by far the best. It's thick but not heavy, and adds the tiniest bit of shimmery color, so it goes great over bare lips or lipstick. Best thing- one application lasts for hours.
So, what are some things you use on a daily to make yourself feel beautiful??
